Ayutthaya: Fully restored and welcoming tourists again

In a sure sign that Thailand is recovering from the recent floods, Thailand’s ancient capital, Autthaya, has been re-opened and is once again welcoming visitors from around the world.
On December 4, thousands of volunteers poured into the city to take part in the Ayutthaya Cleaning Day, a part of the Beautiful Thailand campaign to help restore tourism following the floods. December 4 was of particular importance to Thai people since it also marked the 84th birthday of the King.
All transportation within the city as well as transportation links to the city, including the beautifully restored Mekhala rice barges that carry tourists on overnight cruises between Bangkok and the ancient city, are completely operational.
One of the most important cultural and historical sites in Thailand, Ayutthaya has also been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. More than 2.3 million tourists visit the city every year. The city is now looking forward to welcoming tourists from around the country and the world once again.
